38th Edition Slated for May 4th

Spokane, WA—With a little over two months before the 38th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run, plans are well underway for yet another big crowd to take to the streets of Spokane. Over 8,000 runners and walkers have jumped on board since online registration opened on January 1, and a final tally of 50,000 is expected by race day. For those who didn't join in the early surge, there’s still plenty of time to sign up for the popular 12-kilometer (7.46 mile) road race, which takes place on Sunday, May 4.

Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip were among those that participated in the half-marathon.

Gordon Shatters Course Record at Surf City USA Marathon

Gordon completed the 26.2 mile oceanfront course in 2:39:58, bettering the previous mark of 2:56:28 and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Team Trials

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Emily Gordon of Los Angeles, 21, won the 18th Surf City USA Marathon on Super Bowl Sunday, shattering the women’s course record by nearly 17 minutes. Gordon finished the race in 2 hours, 39 minutes, 58 seconds.
Charles White, 24, of Huntington Beach, won the men’s marathon with a time of 2:33:21, three minutes ahead of runner-up Jim Lubinski, 35, of Los Angeles.  The perfect temperatures (high of 60 degrees) and light breezes made for a very fast day for thousands of runners, with many personal bests.

MIAMI (Feb. 2, 2014) — Mariska Kramer Postma didn’t look like the typical jubilant marathon winner Sunday as she crossed the finish line at the 2014 Life Time Miami Marathon.
Kramer Postma swatted at the finish line tape in disgust because her winning time of 2:49:28 missed her target in the race by 11 minutes. When you are winning South Florida’s elite distance race for the second year in a row, and overcoming a pre-race stomach flu on top of it, you have a right to be picky about your time.
“There simply was nothing in my legs, no energy,” said Kramer Postma, a native of the Netherlands. “I had to talk to them like ‘Hello!’

Los Angeles to host 2016 Olympic Team Trials For Men’s and Women’s Marathon

The 2016 Olympic Trials will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. With separate starts, the men’s and women’s races both will be carried in their entirety on NBC.

LOS ANGELES –The City of Los Angeles will host the Women’s and Men’s 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – MarathonUSA Track & Field, the U.S. Olympic CommitteeLos Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and LA MARATHON LLC announced Wednesday. 

The 2016 Olympic Trials will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. With separate starts, the men’s and women’s races both will be carried in their entirety on NBC.

“We are thrilled with what Los Angeles will provide to our athletes, the Olympic movement and the sport of long distance running by hosting this event,” USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “With television coverage on NBC and incredible public and private support for the race in one of the world’s biggest media markets, everything is in place to continue to elevate the Olympic Trials and give our athletes a platform on which they can truly shine.”

NEW ORLEANS – (February 2, 2014) – More than 15,000 participants took over the historic streets of the Big Easy at the 5th  Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon & ½ Marathon, which took place on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, 2014. Battling tough weather conditions, Ben Bruce of Flagstaff, Ariz., made his first go at 26.2 miles a memorable one, winning in 2 hours, 21 minutes, 56 seconds. Former NFL lineman and LSU alum, Alan Faneca (right, photo credit Andrew McClanahan) also completed his first marathon in 3:56:17, following a significant weight loss of more than 100 lbs after retiring from the NFL.
