50,564 runners made history on November 2 as the world’s largest number of marathon finishers, surpassing 50,000 finishers for the second year in a row
NEW YORK - More than 50,000 runners finished the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon for the second year in a row on Sunday, November 2—the biggest field ever at the event and the largest marathon in history, it was announced today by New York Road Runners President and CEO Mary Wittenberg.

* Due to high winds, the race distance of the Professional Wheelchair Division was adjusted to 23.2 miles after the start line was moved to the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

The NBA Relay
The NBA Relay, a 24-leg relay team led off by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and anchored by NBA Global Ambassador and New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets legend Dikembe Mutombo, ran the TCS New York City Marathon course with a relay comprised of students from NYRR’s free, year-round youth running programs
