COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (February 5, 2014) - One of the Running USA 2014 powered by ACTIVE Network conference highlights will again be the Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction presented by Competitor Group. The event is slated for Monday evening, February 10 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina in San Diego, California. The banquet will induct the 11th class of Running USA's Hall of Champions that recognizes individuals who have made important and noteworthy contributions to the sport of running. Last year's honorees were running pioneers Ted Corbitt and Nina Kuscsik.

In addition, at the sold-out 11th Industry Conference dinner, Running USA will announce the 5th Allan Steinfeld Development Award winner. The annual $25,000 grant from the auction proceeds goes to a top U.S. training group. Established U.S. distance training centers were invited to apply for the 2014 grant, and from seven finalists (American Distance Project, Club Northwest, Mammoth Track Club, New Jersey-New York Track Club,Team RunFan, Team Rogue and Team USA Minnesota), Running USA will announce and present the selected team.

"Our attendees enjoy the Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction as there is buzz in the air as the inductees are honored and celebrated as well as the winning training group introduced and feted," said Kevin Callahan, Running USA President. "The lively auction adds to the evening's festivities and helps support our programs."
At Running USA 2010, the inaugural development award was announced and named after Allan Steinfeld, a long-time leader in the sport, who jump-started the U.S. distance running resurgence when as head of the New York Road Runners he allocated $20,000 seed money ($1 per U.S. entry at the 2000 New York City Marathon) for the development program Team USA Distance Runninglaunched in November 2000 that produced top training groups such as Team Running USA (two Olympic medals in 2004 and major marathon wins) and inspired others to be established.
In February 2010, Team USA Minnesota was selected as the inaugural award winner; in February 2011, Team USA Arizona, the second recipient of the award; in January 2012, Mammoth Track Club, the third recipient and last February ZAP Fitness received the annual grant.
New this year at the Hall of Champions Dinner will be a "Runners Roast" featuring inaugural roast recipient Bart Yasso, Runner's World's Chief Running Officer and Running USA Hall of Champions member (2007).
