The study, "Economic and Fiscal Impact Analysis of the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon," was conducted following MCM Weekend, held Oct. 24-27, 2013.

Battling tough weather conditions, Ben Bruce of Flagstaff, Ariz., made his first go at 26.2 miles a memorable one, winning in 2 hours, 21 minutes, 56 seconds. LOS ANGELES  — A stacked line-up  of more than 20 of the world’s most competitive distance runners—including defending men’s champion Erick Mose and 2013 men’s runner-up Julius Keter—headline the field for the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, March 9th 2014.

This year’s ASICS LA Marathon, which will once again follow its popular Stadium to the Sea course, starting at Dodger Stadium and finishing near the Santa Monica Pier, will be the 29th edition of the race, which became an annual event following the historic 1984 Olympic Game in Los Angeles.

NEW YORK CITY - Celebrities will sparkle at the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, and many of these participants will be running on behalf of meaningful causes. Several of the celebrity runners for this year’s race are marathon veterans, including Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns, actor Patrick Wilson, restaurateur Joe Bastianich, and author Richard Blais. Those new to this year’s field and previously announced include actressPamela Anderson, Olympic swimming gold medalist Summer Sanders, and entrepreneur Bill Rancic, who is running on behalf of TIMEX, it was announced by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.

“We always look forward to having our celebrity runners be a part of the ING New York City Marathon,” said Wittenberg. “Like thousands of our runners, they are adding meaning to their miles by raising awareness and funds for special causes close to their hearts. Star power helps spread the story of the power of the Marathon, and the benefits of running. Each of these notable participants are admirable advocates of healthy living, and exhibit a refreshing sense of determination to take on the ultimate challenge of 26.2 miles.”

These familiar faces will be mixed in with some 48,000 participants expected for this year’s race. Some of these runners are familiar with fierce competition, like Summer Sanders, who says, “I am thrilled to be back at the ING New York City Marathon, as the energy throughout the 26.2 miles is like nothing else. I lived in New York City for eight years and still love this city—this is such a great reason to come back and to soak it up.”

Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Launches New TourPass 3-Pack

Runners can choose multiple Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series races for one low price; 2014 TourPass Unlimited also available at RunRocknRoll/TourPass

SAN DIEGO  – Your ticket to run is back and better than ever. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series announced the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series TourPass will include a new option for runners who want to rock in multiple cities for one price.

TourPass Unlimited was introduced in 2013 and will once again invite runners to register for any Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series events within a single calendar year. New in 2014, runners can also choose the TourPass 3-Pack which offers any three races for $249. Both TourPass options can be used for North American races only.

“We recognize and appreciate the dedication our runners continue to show by joining us in city after city, exploring the country through our races,” said Bruce Revman, SVP of Marketing. “As runners are planning their 2014 race schedule, TourPass offers an incentive and value for those who plan on participating in multiple events throughout the year.”

In 2012, more than 23,000 participants completed more than one Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event, with over 5,000 of those runners completing three or more races. Currently, more than 2,000 participants run with TourPass.

YAKIMA RIVER CANYON MARATHON Race Report– April 6, 2013

Bob and Lenore Dolphin...the Dolphin Marathon Team!!

As always, I enjoyed participating in the Yakima River Canyon Marathon (YRCM) on April 6, 2013.  This year was the 13^th annual event, and there were 20 of us runners/walkers who have finished all of them.

On race morning I joined a busload of early starters at the Selah Civic Center Race Headquarters for the 35-mile drive to Ellensburg and the start of the marathon.  At 6:00 a.m. I started the race, and we all crossed the timing mat in pre-dawn darkness. 

Dr. Mitch Hungate, my dentist and friend, was nursing a minor back injury, so he walked with me for most of the way.  We visited a lot, and the early miles quickly passed by.  I learned much about his experiences as an iron-man triathlete and mountain climber and will treasure these special hours with him.  Tragically, this was his last race.  He was killed in an avalanche the next Saturday while snow-shoeing near I-90’s Exit 47 on Snoqualmie Pass.

When the 8:00 a.m. “regular starters” began passing us, Chuck Engel, 42, of Coos Bay, Oregon, was in the lead.  He finished as the third, consecutive winner of the YRCM with a time of 2:45:03.  Steve Geertgens, 44, of Seattle finished in second place with a 2:53:49, and Rick Becker, 58, of Selah came in third with a 2:56:03.  Richard Le, 44, of Bellevue set a new wheelchair course record with a time of 1:23:23.

The winner for the women was Julie Gilchrist, 45, of Missoula, MT with a time of 3:12:55.  In second place was Aleah Mickelson, 35, of Yakima who ran a close race to finish in 3:15:45 and beat Gretchen Bodeen, 32, also of Yakima who ran a 3:15:48.

As the runners in the main field passed me, I appreciated those who greeted me and wished me well.  Rich Menzel, 70, of Everett, WA finished with a time of 5:55:36, and Don “The Rev:” Kienz, 57, of Exton, PA had a time of 7:33:50.  Both of them came back onto the course to accompany me in my last miles.  The headwind that slowed everyone affected my progress as well.  I crossed the finish line with a time of 9:33:42, 391^st of 392 finishers and 2^nd in the 80+ Male Division.

We were privileged this year to have Bart Yasso from Runners World Magazine as the guest speaker at the Friday night pasta feed.  For years his assignments have included participation in unusual races all over the world.  He writes about his adventures and uses his photographs in his slide-show presentations.  As always, the audience was entertained by his humor and exotic subject matter.

In spite of the headwind on the course, it was a weekend of fun that included another reunion for the 100 Marathon Club North America and a race on an awesome course for over 400 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants.

SEATTLE - (June 22, 2013)  - From the stunning views of Mt. Rainier to the peaceful Lake Washington waterfront, it was a picturesque Saturday summer day in Seattle as the city celebrated five years of Rock ‘n’ Roll running. The annual kickoff to the Seafair summer festival, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & Half Marathon brought miles of music and a moving memorial to our country’s military.

EUGENE, Ore. - (April 24, 2012) - This weekend's 6th Eugene Marathon boasts the largest and one of the most competitive elite fields in the race's history in both the half and full marathon races with runners that include Olympic hopefuls and several others capable of setting new course records in both races. The 50 registered elite runners will come from 14 states and four countries to compete at the Sunday, April 29 event. The men's marathon will have 20 competitors who went below the 2:30 mark in 2011 and the race should be especially highly contested.
